Cosmo's Obituary

On the morning of May 31st, 2009, Cosmo the fish passed away. Investigators are still working to find the cause. They are deciding between two plausable causes.

1st: There are some rocks in the tank that were set up to mimic a cave. The top rock had fallen at some point and it was then that the owners noticed a scrape the size of the tip of a ball point pen. Whether or not Cosmo was under the rock when it fell, we do not know. However, this may have been the cause of eventuall infection and death.

2nd: There is a thing called Pop-Eye, which is a symptom, not a disease. Symptoms include body sores, bloody spots, staggering, black spots, tumors that have errupted, emaciation or scale protrusion, or loss of fins. Cosmo had body sores, bloody spots, and was missing a few scales.

We may never know exactly what happened, but we will all miss our friend Cosmo. Joseph will miss him eating out of his hand the most. Elizabeth will miss watching his fun personality as he swam around the tank. Little Joseph will miss him...later when he is older and understands. :)

March 26 Ghost Shrimp

We picked up 6 Ghost Shrimp to help keep the bottom of the tank clean. Also because we think they are cool looking! The shrimp in this video is actually pregnant. You can see her eggs under the mid section of her body. We decided that all 6 shrimp look too much alike, so we just named them ALL Jacque.

March 23 Tiger Barbs

The tank was set up Friday March 20, 2009. I decided to help cycle my tank with the help of some fish. So, Monday, March 23 we went down to Petco and picked up 6 Tiger Barbs. To my surprise all have continued to survive thus far. They of course have names. The biggest is Phezic. At first we thought he would be the bully. But he wasn't. However, things have changed and he's decided to be mister tough guy after all. The smallest is Tiny Tim. He seems to be pretty good at avoiding Phezic. Then we have 3 others, who all look so similar we decided to name them Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Abednego used to be the most vibrantly colored out of all of the fish and was the bully. Now they all have great color, and as mentioned before, Phezic is the bully now. The last fish we named Mr. Gimp. We thought he was a little sick when we got him. His color wasn't very great and his swimming...well, lets just say I could have taught him a thing or two.
